Domain Name Availability

Domain name availability is really a big deal lately, since so many of the popular domain names have already been reserved or a parked right now.

Once you’ve chosen your desired name, you will need to check its availability. To do this, simple open your web browser and type in the name you want to use. If a website pops up, that domain name is already in use – sorry! You’ll have to choose another one. Once you find one that isn’t in use, you’ll need to buy it. To do that, you can either check out registrar sites (do a search online) or you can buy one at an auction like eBay. One word of caution in doing the latter of these, though: Do your homework. If you are buying a domain name that is already (allegedly) developed and earning money, ask for proof of the site’s income. Also, if the owner of the domain claims that it is listed with a site like Yahoo!, check it out yourself. Make sure that when you “drill down” through the category listings in Yahoo!, that the site actually does appear.

There – you’ve done it. You have a domain name, and hopefully a catchy – but succinct – one. The only thing left is to get traffic directed to your site! So empty your piggy bank and start putting that extra money into advertising efforts. It will pay off!

A domain name and its availability is key to your web name choice and success – be sure to choose carefully!
